What are good brands of printer I can buy for a PC?
First, you need to know what type of hardware your computer will accept. For example, does your computer have “USB” style input ports? Many printers only come with this style of output cord. You can get an adapter, but it pays to know whether or not you need it, ahead of time.
If you do have the right sort of input port, is it being used by another piece of hardware right now? There are “hubs” you can add on to allow more than one item to access the same port. (more…)
What’s the difference between a laser printer and an inkjet printer?
In general terms, laser printers have higher resolution so they have better print quality. Inkjets create images by spitting out tiny droplets of ink, so their resolution is lower. If you look closely at a page printed on a laser printer and the same page printed on an inkjet, you will be able to see that the laser has smoother edges to the fonts. (more…)
Is it true that LCD screens aren’t good for games?
The answer to your question is totally subjective. It is a fact that LCDs in their current state of technology cannot refresh the screen as fast as a regular CRT, but LCD refresh limitations are steadily being overcome. I have seen games that I thought looked good on an LCD and someone else did not, and vice versa. You know what you do and do not like. Go check out a few LCD screens and decide for yourself. (more…)
Are LCD screens better for your eyes than normal monitors?
Yes, they are. LCD screens have no refresh rate because each pixel is constantly illuminated, so LCD screens have no flickering. Many people complain that monitor flickering gives them headaches (more…)
What is a server?
A server is a computer that “serves” or gives files or services to other users or computers. An example would be a “web server” which gives web pages to users who request them. File servers work similarly. Print servers control the printing queue for a specific computer, so any computer on the network can use that printer. There are countless types of servers these days with so much network-oriented software out there. (more…)
What is DVD decryption software, and how do you use it?
The information on many DVD’s is encoded, almost solely for the purpose of making them difficult (or ideally impossible) to copy. Decryption software, (as it’s name suggests), “decrypts” this information, so that you can extract it from the DVD, either to use on your computer, or to copy onto another. (more…)
What is software?
Software are programs that run on computers. This could include your web browser, your instant messenger, or even your operating system (Windows, MacOS, etc.). The computer itself, the hardware, could do nothing without the programs, the software, that run on it.
How are computers able to technologically advance so often?
Chip makers spend millions of dollars on research and development in frontier areas of physics, therefore they are constantly making new discoveries and breakthroughs. This is because the marketplace demands faster and faster machines each year. This will continue until some kind of barrier is reached in physics or until demand for faster computers dies down.
